From hay rides to apple bobbing to petting zoos, a farm party theme is the perfect choice for loads of amazing entertainment options for the whole family.
Farm parties are great because they are perfectly suitable for both genders. You can have fun setting up your party in a home back yard or take your event out to an actual farm.
Decor choices for this theme often include red gingham patterns, burlap, hay, milk bottles and crates, red barnyard doors and animal prints. Cow print or gingham table cloths are easy to find, as are red picnic rugs and milk crates with cushions for easy informal seating. Wooden pallets make great display props.
Try your hand at creating a barn door photo backdrop - simply cut a large piece of cardboard into a barn shape - paint it red and add some white tape! Fake grass / astroturf is a great way to spruce up your table settings. Display other party items in metal buckets, milk churns, wheelbarrows or watering cans. If the season is right, pumpkins make perfect (cheap) centrepieces.
You could set your table with cow plates, cow tablecloth, cow straws, barn plates and cow balloons. Get creative with a “drink trough” drinks station and surround it with some cute animal balloons.
Pro tip : If you little one is a Peppa pig fan, this is a great theme to include her in without having to throw a whole Peppa pig party!
If you love costumes, guests can come in farm clothes such as overalls, checked t-shirts, straw hats and gumboots. You could collect some dress up items to use for photo props and use a printable photo frame prop to create lasting memories.
There are lots of easy farm themed games that kids (and adults) can play. This is a great theme to encourage some messy, muddy fun! Try apple bobbing, treasure in a haystack (hide little treasures or chocolate eggs in a wheelbarrow of hay), egg and spoon races, wheelbarrow races, musical hay bales (chairs), obstacle courses, mud painting and hay rides.
On the craft table kids can make their own animal themed party hats or balloons. Don’t forget to blow up a few gloves and make your own udders to display around the place!
Other entertainment options include a petting zoo (you can hire one to come to you), pony rides, tractor rides, and live country music.
Food ideas can be wide ranging from healthy fruit and vegetables to pigs in mud and milk in glass jars. Try your hand at animal shaped cookies and pigs in blankets. Corn on the cob, straw (french fries) and apple pie are always popular choices. You could set up your tables like a farmers market.
Barn themed birthday cakes are a popular choice for the pro’s but if you are looking for something a bit simpler you could make a pig or cow face cake from a store bought sponge, or make mini animal cupcakes (use pink icing and marshmallows for a pig, liquorice for a cow, popcorn for sheep wool to decorate). Or perhaps try a paddock cake with green icing, kit kat fence and plastic animals.
Party favor ideas include red barn favour boxes, toffee apples (which can be displayed in an “orchard”) terracotta pots with seeds, toy farm animals, animal print favor bags, small bath ducks, mini honey jars with thank you labels.
